I think master "copies" are a great way to learn, but it's easy to fall asleep while copying stroke per stroke.  So here I'm trying to mix it up a bit.

Thora

The first of a series of personal characters.

Just as an exercise, here were some my goals with this character design:
◘To create a costume that appeared both functional and somewhat memorable. It's really easy to over-design fantasy costumes, to the point where they're no longer practical. I aim for something an actor could wear in a realistic setting.
◘Use soft lighting. Slightly cool primary in the foreground, with a warm secondary kick light.
◘Stay loose with the brushwork wherever possible.

Manatee

The idea for this came about during a very busy week, but I couldn't wait to get it out. I'm fairly happy with the figure, though the environment may be a little lacking by comparison.  I wanted the foliage to seem out of focus, but it may simply appear rough and unfinished. If I get some more time, I might noodle on some more.
